Lost Cinemas
of Portsmouth
Celebrating Portsmouth’s cinema history
During the 20th century, Portsmouth had a rich cinema culture. At the peak of the big screen's popularity in the 30s and 40s, the city was home to 29 active cinemas, some small and quaint, and some so grand they looked like palaces.
To celebrate the extensive history of cinemas in the city, I was commissioned by the No.6 Cinema to design posters for the exhibition. Including a poster which maps the location of cinemas in the city throughout history, and an art deco inspired illustrative poster picturing one of the now closed Odeon cinemas.
